The Brikama Area Council (BAC), under the leadership of Chairman Yankuba Darboe, has acquired three trucks and two pickups in a strategic partnership with ESPASS Motors to enhance garbage collection services across the West Coast Region.
Chairman Darboe explained that the council’s previous trucks were problematic, requiring frequent and costly maintenance. He noted that these trucks were originally owned by a German company, which handed them over to the Brikama Area Council when it left the region.
“Those trucks (the old trucks) were not bought here. There was a German company using them and when they were going back, they gave them to the Brikama Area Council. We were only using them because we had a lot of work to complete,” Chairman Yankuba Darboe said.
He expressed his satisfaction with the new trucks, saying that both the staff and management of BAC, as well as the entire region, are thrilled with the new additions. “Today, the entire staff and management of BAC are happy because of these new trucks. The entire region is happy. These will not only help us in collecting garbage but also to carry Sand, Stones, in maintaining our roads, and many more. I want to thank ESPASS Motors, we have started working with them and every year we will increase more trucks because our region is big.” he said.
Chairman Darboe also shared exciting news about future plans for the fleet, revealing that eight more trucks are expected to arrive soon.
“We need more trucks to do the job. We are expecting eight more trucks. Out of the eight, five are compactor trucks, and skip trucks, we also have a truck that will be collecting the big cases of garbage around, a big shovel, and a bulldozer. So all together we are expecting another eight that are yet to arrive,” he said.
Jim Gaye, a representative from ESPASS Motors, confirmed that the remaining trucks would be delivered in January.
“This was a public tender which we won after it went through rigorous evaluation and approval from GPPA, and it’s in phases. This is the first phase of the stock we have available so instead of waiting for the next, we just delivered this for now as we have eight more coming up and by January you should be able to commission them,” Gaye assured.
