Breaking News: Judge Grants Extension of Sabally’s Detention Till New Year

Hon. Momodou Sabally, Campaign Manager United Democratic Party

Kexx News is reporting that High court Judge, Ngui Mboob, today, 23rd December 2022, granted the state’s application to extend Momodou Sabally’s detention till next year.

The extension came after the Deputy Director of Prosecutions, Abdul Maita Yusuf reportedly filed a summon on notice asking the High Court to extend Mr.Sabally’s detention.

“The State filed a summon on notice seeking the High court to grant their application to extend the detention of UDP’s campaign manager, Momodou Sabally until after the vacation. Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Abdul Maita Yusuf appeared for the State.”

The extension to detain Sabally beyond the 72 hours constitutional requirement, notwithstanding, the fact that the detainee has not been charged with any crime was reportedly granted by the vocational judge on duty till January 5th, 2023.

“Justice Ngui Mboob granted the application. This means Sabally will be detained till on the 5th of January 2022 when he is expected to appear. Kexx News is reliably informed that he has not yet been charged. The reason for his detention is not yet clear despite the rumor that is circulating on social media regarding a video of Sabally speaking. We will keep you informed once we establish the reason for his detention.”

It could be recalled that the Gambia Police Force (GPF) on Tuesday invited Momodou Sabally for questioning in connection to a video making rounds on social media suggesting how the president will be unseated before the local government elections.
