The Association of West African Legislative Correspondents (AWALCO) on Tuesday,December 11, 2023, presented awards to several prominent regional lawmakers in recognition of their outstanding performance in the Fifth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament. Among the honorees were Hon. Fatoumatta Njai, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Banjul South, Hon.Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Rt. Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante, and Hon. Abdoulaye Vilan.
Hon. Fatoumatta Touma Njai received special recognition for her steadfast dedication to duty and remarkable personal achievements, particularly in the realm of advocating for the well-being of women and children.
Expressing her gratitude, Hon. Njai remarked, “It was with great honour today that I received alongside my Speaker, Hon. Vilan from Senegal and Sen. Abiante from Nigeria, this distinct honour from the media team of the ECOWAS Parliament and West Africa for our commitment and outstanding performances at the parliament,” Hon. Njai said.
Hon. Njai further dedicated the award to her colleagues, emphasizing that their collective efforts played a pivotal role in achieving such recognition. She expressed hope that the accomplishments of the 2017-2022 delegation would serve as a model for the incoming 2022-27 delegation.
“ I hope that the delegation of the 2022-27 would replicate that of the 2017-2022,” Hon. Njai stated.
