The spokesperson of the Gambia Armed Forces Captain Malick Sanyang has confirmed the release of the PIU officers arrested by the Navy at Denton Bridge with Guns last night.
“What I can confirm this morning is that the PIU officers that were initially found in the arrested boat and arrested have been released,” the Army PRO told this reporter.
When asked whether the guns have also been released, Captain Sanyang could not confirm that but promised to get back to this reporter once he gathered the details.
However, our source who broke the news informed this reporter that the guns have been handed over to the personnel of the Gambia Police Force, earlier this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force ASP Lamin Njie said he is not aware of the arrest of any PIU officers by the Gambia Navy.
It could be recalled that the Army spokesperson last night confirmed the arrest of 4 PIU officers and 2 foreigners on a boat with guns; but could not give much information on the matter because he said investigations were ongoing at the time..
