APP-Sobeyaa has officially endorsed the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) candidate ahead of tomorrow’s highly anticipated by-election in Kiang Masembeh Ward Councillor elections.
In a statement issued today, the party emphasized the importance of democratic accountability and urged voters to support the UDP candidate as a means of countering the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
“Fellow citizens, democracy flourishes when power is balanced, the government is held accountable, and the voices of the people resonate at every level of governance. As Kiang Masembeh prepares to elect a new local councillor, it is crucial that we unite to counter the ruling government’s attempts to consolidate power. The UDP candidate embodies not just a political party, but the struggle for fairness, accountability, and a government that truly listens to its people,” the statement read.
The party also criticized the ruling NPP, accusing it of neglecting the needs of ordinary citizens.
“They have broken promises, engaged in reckless spending, and used state resources for their own benefit rather than serving the public interest. Their negligence has exacerbated the economic crisis, deteriorated social services, and blatantly ignored the democratic principles that should guide our nation. Allowing them to capture this seat from the opposition risks further entrenching a system where the government operates without checks and balances, free to pursue its wasteful and self-serving agenda,” the statement continued.
The party called on opposition forces, particularly its supporters, to prioritize the nation’s well-being and support the UDP candidate.
“This by-election is not just about Kiang Masembeh; it is about sending a powerful message that the people will not permit the ruling party to tighten its grip on power without challenge. A vote for the UDP candidate is a vote for accountability, justice, and the continued presence of opposition voices advocating for the people. Let us not be swayed by the NPP’s desperate tactics. They have failed the nation, and they will fail Kiang Masembeh if given the opportunity. Now is the time for unity among opposition forces. Now is the time to stand firm and ensure that the people’s voices remain strong in the local council,” they concluded.
