The outgoing U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia, Her Excellency, Sharon L. Cromer, paid a farewell visit to Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow on Tuesday at his office in Banjul.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the U.S. Embassy in The Gambia announced that the visit marked the conclusion of Ambassador Cromer’s notable three-year tenure, during which she significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Cromer was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden on June 23, 2021, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 18, 2021, to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia.
Vice President Jallow expressed deep appreciation for Ambassador Cromer’s unwavering dedication and service, reaffirming the Gambian government’s commitment to fostering the long-standing partnership with the United States.
In her remarks, Ambassador Cromer thanked Vice President Jallow and the Gambian government for their cooperation during her tenure.
“We share common objectives with this beautiful country. Together, we believe in democracy, human rights, and the protection of marginalized communities, particularly women and girls. My time here has been both fulfilling and inspiring,” she stated.
She highlighted the milestones achieved during her tenure, noting the significant expansion of U.S. Embassy programs, which grew from an initial $3 million focused on justice reform to $106 million, encompassing critical sectors such as health, education, agriculture, energy, and election support.
Ambassador Cromer also commended the dedication of Gambians, particularly youth and women, acknowledging their essential role in the nation’s progress.“The young people of this country are its future—bright, curious, and eager to learn. The women are incredibly hardworking and committed to creating better lives for their children and communities,” she emphasized.
As her tenure concludes, Ambassador Cromer expressed gratitude to both governments for the opportunity to serve, reaffirming her confidence in the enduring friendship between The Gambia and the United States.
The Gambian government extended its best wishes to Ambassador Cromer as she embarks on her next chapter, expressing commitment to furthering the partnership she helped strengthen.
