Alpha Ousman Jallow, Candidate Aspiring for the PPP Leadership
By Buba Gagigo
Alpha Ousman Jallow, a member of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), has officially declared his intention to contest the party leadership, challenging current leader Kebba Jallow.
“I am Alpha Ousman Jallow, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Secretary-General and Party Leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP). Our party has a rich history and strong values, but we have seen a decline in recent years. It’s time for a new vision and leadership to revitalize the PPP and restore its standing with the people of The Gambia. I believe that the PPP’s core values of democracy, rule of law, and all-inclusiveness are fundamental to our country’s future. Under my leadership, I am committed to rebuilding the PPP’s structures and regaining the trust of the Gambian people,” he said.
He attributed his readiness for this challenge to his extensive experience in public service and the guidance he received from the late Hon Omar Amadou Jallow. Jallow emphasized his dedication to preserving the legacy of the PPP’s founding fathers and ensuring that their guiding principles remain at the forefront of the party’s mission.
“This is not just about a leadership position; it’s about the future of the PPP and our country. I am asking for your support to help me lead the PPP and bring about positive change. Together, we can strengthen our party and work towards a brighter future for The Gambia. In 2021, I decided to contest under the PPP ticket for the National Assembly Elections (Old Yundum Constituency). Unfortunately, it could not materialize, for I had to differ with The PPP executive position to contest only one Constituency for National Assembly Elections. As a result, I contested as an independent candidate.” he said.
He also mentioned his former role as a board trustee within the party, a position he resigned from due to concerns over the PPP leadership’s lack of a clear and future-oriented vision. With 25 years of experience in development, education, training, and administration, Jallow has worked in both local and international organizations across The Gambia.
“I also serve on the board of trustees of the party. However, I made the difficult decision to resign from this position when I became aware that the PPP leadership was not displaying a clear vision that would ensure the party’s future. I have worked in the fields of development, education, training, and administration for the past 25 years, serving in various capacities with local and international organizations in The Gambia,” he said.Mr Jallow said his academic credentials include a Senior Secondary School Certificate, multiple professional qualifications in Management and Administration, and an MBA in Human Resources Management from the Centre for Management Studies and Development (Switzerland).
“I hope and trust that all esteemed members and militants of the PPP will heed this call and lend their support to my Candidature for Secretary-General and Party Leader in the upcoming Elective Congress. In days, weeks, and months ahead, I will be engaging the membership of the PPP at home and abroad,” he concluded.
