Alleged Killer of Fatoumata Kargbo Formally Charged, Appears in Court

The police have officially filed charges against the individual accused of murdering Fatoumata Kargbo, who tragically lost her life on January 19, 2024, at a Westfield Forex Bureau before Jummah prayers.

The accused is facing charges of “Murder contrary to Section 187 punishable under section 188 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia 2009.”

“Following a thorough inquiry into the tragic incident that occurred on January 19, 2024, during Jumma Prayer at Westfield, where Fatoumatta Kargbo, an employee of H.M Forex Bureau, lost her life, the accused has been formally charged. He faces charges of “Murder contrary to Section 187 punishable under section 188 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Volume 3 Laws of The Gambia 2009.” the police said.

The case has been presented at the Kanifing Magistrate Courts, with the police seeking a transfer to the High Court due to jurisdictional constraints. The accused is currently in custody at Mile Two Central Prison, awaiting the proceedings at the High Court’s special criminal division.


“Currently, he is remanded at Mile Two Central Prison, awaiting the hearing of the case at the High Court’s special criminal division,” the police said.
