The Alkalo of Gifanga Village in Foni Kansala, Modou Gibba, is appealing to the government of the Gambia to help them secure the release of a resident of their village, allegedly captured and detained by the Senegalese Soldiers during one of their recent clashes with MFDC separatist around the border village.

“Peace is coming back now, but we have one problem. One of our villagers was captured and detained by Senegalese Soldiers during their clashes with MFDC. He was tending to his cattle on the outskirts of town during the skirmishes and was captured and detained by the Senegalese contingent. We were told he will be released last Tuesday but haven’t seen or heard from him yet. We don’t know what happened to him, but knew he was detained by them.”

The Alkalo made this appeal on Saturday, April 23rd, when a contingent of Gambian soldiers, accompanied by journalists, visited his community to assess the security situation following clashes between the MFDC separatist and the Senegalese Soldiers in that part of the country.
