A 38-year-old returned to school after his inability to pay his tuition fees forced him to drop out, 17-years ago.
Wandifa Marong, a native of Kiang Kaiaf is continuing his secondary school education in Grade 11th at Kaiaf Senior Secondary School in the Lower River Region.
His return to school followed the introduction of the ‘Second Chance Education Programme’ by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education MoBSE.
“Thanks to the Second Chance Education Program introduced by the Ministry of Education, my dream of completing senior school will soon become a reality. Although, I face a lot of mockery from some community members who felt I am too old to be in school, but my passion to learn keeps me going,” Wandifa is quoted as saying in a statement by the MoBSE Communication Team on Tuesday.
The MoBSE Communication Team during their recent visit to Kaiaf Upper and Senior Secondary School discovered Wandifa’s story.
The dream of Marong who is in Grade 11 Arts preparing for his end of term examination, is to read law at the University and become a lawyer post-secondary school education.
“Neatly dressed in his senior school uniform with a bag on his back, Wandifa recounts how he was able to encourage himself to return to school after being a dropout for seventeen years,” MoBSE Communication Team described the oldest student at the school.
The Unit added that both the school principal, teachers and Wandifa’s Classmates at Kaiaf Upper and Senior Secondary School hailed him (Wandifa) for his determination.
“They described him as a very industrious student who is very obedient, regular and punctual,” the Unit concluded.
