The National Project Coordinator of Help-Gambia, Dawda Cham has said that his association wants to make The Gambia a trash free clean nation.

He said this on Saturday in Brikama in the West Coast, after his organisation in collaboration with Brikama Area Council [BAC] embarked on a general cleansing exercise in the settlement.

“We want to make [The] Gambia a trash free nation. We want to ensure that our cities are clean, not only Brikama but the entire country. One way of doing this is by cleaning the environment.

“If you look at the environments we already cleaned sometimes ago are dirty again. The people living in those environments are not sensitized on how to maintain a clean environment. That’s why we also want to start sensitizing people on how to keep the environments clean.”

Dawda also stated that his association has been doing a lot of other exercises, which inspired them to embark on the project dubbed- make The Gambia a trash free nation.

“We started this trash free project in the Kanifing Municipality which was very successful. And we were motivated to take it to other regions. That’s why we are here today [Saturday] to make Brikama a trash free place.”

He said since the motive of the project is to make Gambia a trash free nation, they are planning to extend the project to other regions such as URR, LRR, CRR and NBR.
