The Ministry of Health has announced the recall of 22, 386 of the banned syrups from the West Coast Region, and Upper River Region, during its phase one recall exercise.
The ministry said this in the 12th situation report (Sitrep 12) on the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) dated 14thOctober 2022.
The recalled brands are the Paracetamol, Promethazine and Cough syrups linked to the death of at least 70 under five Gambian children from July to date.
A breakdown of the statistics, Sitrep 12 stated that 986 Paracetamol syrup was recalled from the West Coast Health Region 1, 3803 from West Coast Health Region 2, and 5382 from the upper River Region.
It added that 923 Promethazine syrup was recalled from West Coast Region 1, 649 from West Coast Region 2, and 924 from upper River Region.
While 2,563 Cough syrup was recalled from West Coast Region one, 1,990 from West Coast Region two, and 2,216 from upper River Region; giving a cumulative recall of 22,386 of the 3 brands from the two regions.
