The Parliamentarian for Busumbala Constituency and supporter of the National People’s Party (NPP) is confident of reelection in the April 2022 parliamentary election.
Hon. Saikouba Jarju is relying on the NPP’s presidential election victory, as well as its programmes and policies of the NPP.
“I am confident that I am going to retain my seat. I am going to support the President [Barrow] through the NPP ticket and Gambians have massively voted for the President because of his programmes he has been implementing and the ones he will implement. So for that to be fulfilled, President Barrow cannot do it alone, he needs the three arms of the government which parliament is part of. So the people who voted and trust the President and all those that accept that he has won and they are going to work with him, they know that he needs people to work with him and that’s parliament. So, the programmes and policies of NPP will give me a weight over anybody who wants to contest against me.
“Two I am connected to my people; I do what my people want me to do. I didn’t do all but there is going to be this opportunity for me to be given another chance to continue because within these five years, I started work effectively after I was expelled from the UDP,” NAM Saikouba Jarju told Kerr Fatou on Monday.
Jarju was elected under the United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket in April 2018; but was expelled with 7 other parliamentarians following allegations of them switching allegiance to President Adama Barrow.
