On 10 November 2022, newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to The Gambia H.E. Liu Jin presented the letter of credence to H.E. President Adama Barrow at the State House.
Ambassador Liu extended greetings from H.E. President Xi Jinping to H.E. President Adama Barrow, and conveyed best wishes from the Chinese government and people to the Gambian government and people. He briefed President Barrow on the outcomes and significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Ambassador Liu reviewed the all-round development of China-Gambia relations since the resumption of diplomatic ties, and commended on the continuously strengthened political mutual trust as well as fruitful outcomes of practical cooperation and exchanges between the two countries. He highlighted the great importance that China attached to its relations with The Gambia, appreciated The Gambia’s consistent adherence to the one-China principle, and expressed China’s readiness in continuing consolidating friendship, deepening mutual trust, and promoting cooperation with the “smiling coast of Africa”.
President Barrow welcomed Ambassador Liu and through him extended greetings to President Xi. He congratulated the CPC for successfully hosting its 20th National Congress,and congratulated President Xi on his election as general secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC. President Barrow spoke highly of the development of Gambia-China relations and cooperation achievements made in the past few years. He re-affirmed The Gambia’s position on its one-China policy, and noted a few areas in which the two countries could carry out more cooperation, in a bid to further achieve a win-win situation and benefit the people of The Gambia and China.
