Aisha Fatty to Testify Virtually or Physically in Civil Suit
Aisha Fatty, who is facing a civil lawsuit filed by Abdoulaye Thiam, is set to testify in April 2025, either in person or virtually. If unavailable to appear physically, she will testify via an online platform, as she is currently restricted from leaving Senegal due to an ongoing legal matter in that jurisdiction.
The lawsuit, brought against both Aisha Fatty and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), seeks the recovery of money, gold ornaments, and various properties, including vehicles, which Thiam claims he provided to Fatty during their relationship.
With the plaintiff having concluded his case after presenting all witnesses, including himself, the trial now moves to the defense phase, where Aisha Fatty is expected to present her testimony.
Senior Counsel Lamin S. Camara, representing Fatty, submitted an application requesting that she be allowed to testify virtually. He argued that her legal constraints in Senegal, along with the fact that she is currently nursing a baby, make it difficult for her to travel to The Gambia for the proceedings.
Senior Counsels Lamin Ceesay and Kebba Ceesay, representing Abdoulaye Thiam, raised no objections to the application, stating that they had discussed the matter with the defense counsel and would communicate further with their client.
Presiding Judge Justice Jaiteh granted the application, allowing Aisha Fatty to present her defense either in person or via virtual means. The case has been adjourned to April 10, 2025, for her testimony.
