In today’s interconnected world, the difficulties faced by African youth in their pursuit of international travel are more pronounced than ever. We find ourselves grappling with countless barriers when attempting to explore the globe, to expand our horizons, and to bridge the gaps that exist between us and the rest of the world. But why is this so?

Why is it that we are subjected to a barrage of visa denials, countless application rejections, and a multitude of stringent prerequisites when seeking to venture beyond our borders? Africa, our beloved continent, has often been painted with the brush of backwardness, a reputation we ourselves have unwittingly perpetuated. The blame falls on our shoulders, as well as on the hypocrisy of the West.

We must not forget our history – the legacy of exploitation and suffering left behind by the West. It was they who came to our shores, plundered our resources, and subjected us to the horrors of slavery. The scars of this dark period still linger, and the challenges persist. We must not forget that the West extends a warm welcome to other tourists while making it increasingly difficult for African travelers.

It is disheartening to see African countries deny visas to their fellow Africans. Why should we employ the same border barriers that were once used by slavers to divide and conquer us? Let us not be pawns in a rule game that only serves to keep us apart. It is high time we break these chains that bind us and work towards a united, prosperous Africa.

Addressing issues of illegal immigration is a necessity, but we must also emphasize that Africa is a land of beauty and wonder. The perception that we seek nothing more than a clandestine entry into other countries is holding us back. The doors of opportunity should not be slammed shut in the faces of those who seek to explore.

The Gambia, like many African countries, has families that depend on remittances from their loved ones abroad. These remittances often serve as a lifeline for households, providing essential financial support that helps put food on the table and ensures children receive an education. Blocking access to these vital remittances would bring immense suffering to the people of The Gambia.

My father, Ousainou Yali, exemplified the spirit of helping and providing for those in need. He supported countless families, paid school fees for children, and ensured that daily bread found its way to many households. His legacy of care and generosity continues to inspire us.

My vision is one of simplicity and transformation. If given the privilege to lead, I commit to revolutionizing our systems, to making it easier for our youth to travel freely and without impediments. The status quo must no longer be accepted, as our youth deserve better.

My pledge is straightforward and heartfelt: I am ready to do whatever it takes and to sacrifice all that I have for the good of the youth of The Gambia, and for the youth of Africa at large. I am ready to die for their dreams to come true. I don’t care if some may backbite me or attempt to tarnish my reputation in this cause, but I want to assure you all that I will help the youth of The Gambia through travel and provide opportunities for all African youth.

In conclusion, I implore all Africans to unite in this cause. Let us work together to shape a future in which our youth can travel freely, explore the world, and return with the knowledge and experiences that will elevate our continent. Together, we can overcome the obstacles that have held us back for too long and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
