Mama Kandeh, the Secretary General and Party Leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has stated that the price of a bag of fertilizer should not exceed nine hundred Dalasis.
His comments follow the government’s announcement of a reduction in the price of fertilizer by D50 for the 2024 rainy season.
“I have read that D50 has been reduced from the fertilizer price, but I don’t know if it’s true. If they claim the price has been reduced, it’s a lie. The price is reduced where the fertilizer is produced. A bag of fertilizer should not exceed D900. So, if they say they have reduced the price by D50, it is not true. If GDC comes to power, no one will have to beg, and no one in the country will suffer from hunger. Any government that cannot feed its own people is not a complete government,” Kandeh said during a meeting in Sare Talata on Sunday.
Kandeh also mentioned that when his party comes to power, there will be free medical care for pregnant women in The Gambia.
“We will build hospitals in every region, not like the ones in Basse or Bansang. I mean real hospitals. If you want to know what a real hospital is, vote for us, and we will show you. In a GDC government, all pregnant women will receive free care from the start of their pregnancy until their child is five months old. Women are suffering in The Gambia, and they need to be empowered,” Kandeh said.
