Independent aspirant Ebrima Tabora Manneh has not endorsed any presidential candidate yet because opinions of his followers remain divided over whom to endorse.
“We were divided because some of us, members of the party, want us to support the NPP, others want us to support the UDP, (and) others want to support other small parties. And there is a section that wants us to be neutral and I’m one of those people. Fortunately, we prevail, namely that we are to concentrate on restructuring our party, on building up our party to prepare for the coming election. Therefore we are not going to endorse any political party at the moment,” Ebrima Tabora Manneh told journalists on Thursday at a local restaurant in Senegambia.
The independent aspirant who was rejected by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) said his supporters could vote for any political party of their choice in the upcoming election.
“All members of our party, our loyal supporters, are free to vote for any candidate of their choice. That is our stand, that is our decision and hopefully, ‘Inshallah’ is final,” he said.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) rejected Mr. Manneh’s nomination for the presidential election last Saturday for non-compliance with section 42 of the electoral law. He later appealed against the decision, but the IEC rejected the appeal.
