Barrow Youths for National Development is initiating host of projects in the country starting this year, President Adama Barrow has told natives of Bakadaji in the Upper River Region on Thursday.
Barrow said the controversial youth movement is going to construct 50 boreholes across the country in 2018 and establish 50 gardens, among others.
“These works will start this year and the television will show it. These (youth movement) are young people who have come to join me to develop this country,” said Barrow at his native constituency.
“Some of these young people are graduates from the university… I am with people who want to develop this country.”
Barrow started a controversial youth movement in late 2017 causing rift between him and his former party.
He would not though say how or where the movement may have sourced its funding for such projects since it is not a state institution.
Meanwhile, Barrow who is on the fourth day of his tour, said his government is receiving help from French Government to assist farmers in key areas.
He expressed his intentions to help commercialize agriculture in the country.
“If a dictator rules you for 20 years, it will retard your progress 50 years behind… We used to have a mix-farming centre here in the 70s but all of it has been ruined,” he said criticizing his predecessor Yahya Jammeh.
