Meet Kanifing Municipality’s nominated youth councillor

The Kanifing Municipality has announced the approval of Kemo Bojang as the National Youth Council’s choice for the Nominated Youth Councillor at the municipality.

Bojang, a native of Bakau and an active youth activist studying history at the University of the Gambia, will be representing youth interests in the municipality.

Below is what Mayor Bensouda post on his official Facebook page on Mr Bojang:

Kemo Bojang is a 22 year old Gambian, a Champion of democracy, Co-founder of urban farmers Gambia an agribusiness, member of Give1 Project Gambia, a global non-profit organization, TeamGomSa Bopa a civic movement, He4She the Gambia an organisation that deals with gender inequalities, mentor of young people and the founder of Bakau youth development association which is a community development based association.

Kemo is currently enrolled at the University of The Gambia studying history and political science where he will graduate in 2020. One of his biggest goals is to get to the highest level possible in his field of study and one day serve his people as the president of the Gambia, create a conducive environment of all, make the Gambia an all-inclusive country, provide jobs and inspire more young people to take up community service and politics in accordance with good governance and democracy.

His organization, Give1 is dedicated to autonomy and working to promote young men and women’s involvement in the social, economic and political life of their communities, their nations, as well as political and economic groupings in which they live.

He served as the coordinator of the citizen conversation which brings government officials and citizens to discuss on current issues. As a champion in democracy and human rights, Kemo has used his influence to organise and coordinate a series of activities with other young people which includes the first “GAMBIA HAS DECIDED” conference in the Gambia which was able to bring together hundreds of young people and later the whole Gambia in making sure that the voice of the people was respected after the long term serving dictator Yahya Jammeh was defeated in the December 1st elections of 2016.

He is also a member of YALI- Young African Leaders Initiative Cohort three (3) in Lagos Nigeria, where he took a course in Public policy and won the YALI star award of public policy and management in September of 2017.

Mr Bojang loves to volunteer and give selfless service to his community because he believes it is one of the greatest ways one can contribute to national development. For this reason and more, he volunteers in his community by mentoring the young people with the focused on service to humanity starting from their communities where they will feel a sense of belongingness and being part of the change they are about to bring.

Every summer, he gives free classes to junior school students and volunteers with other children organisations by being a resource person or mentor during their summer camps for children. Kemo hopes that one day, Africa will be able to harness its democratic dividend by empowering young people to play active part in the development of their nations and Africa as a whole. This being the case, he is ready to partner with any individual or organisation in the aim of developing the ideal Africa.
