The latest Presidential aspirant Essa Mbye Faal has described Gambia’s health care situation as a ‘death trap’ saying people go into facilities with a headache and come out dead due to lack of equipment.

People continue to die in the hospitals because of lack of equipment at the health facilities. Health care situation in this country [The Gambia] is a death trap. You go to a hospital in this country with a headache; you come out in a stretcher [dead]. That is how bad it is. We are all victims. People are dying because there are no gloves. People are dying because there are rudimentary facilities to carry out basic procedures to help them,” Essa Mbye Faal said this evening.

The former TRRC Lead Counsel made these remarks at the official launch of his presidential bid ahead of the December 4 presidential election; while recollecting the circumstances leading to the death of his father under the country’s health care, in 2020.

The former TRRC Lead Counsel made the declaration this evening at the American International University in Kanifing, before well-wishers and the media.

Essa M. Faal, until this development served as the Lead Counsel at the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

He also served in the Gambian judiciary, prior to his appointment as a Judicial Affairs Officer by the United Nations; among other international appointments, he had served in or is serving in.
