The Civil Society Organisations urged President Barrow to urgently put in place a robust mechanism for the implementation of the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) recommendations when submitted.
“We wish to urge the President Adama Barrow that on receipt of the final report to act with the urgency it deserves and without delay to put in a place a robust mechanism for the implementation of the recommendations,” Chairman John Charles Njie said.
The TRRC report which should contain the recommendations is due for submission to the President on 12th July 2021.
He also called on the National Assembly Members and political parties to play their roles to enable the executive fulfill their mandate.
“We wish to particularly call on the National Assembly Members and political parties to play a proactive and leading role to enable the executive fulfill their mandate,” Njie continued.
The civil society organizations made these calls during a press conference at TANGO on Friday.
The Gambia Government in 2017, launched a national transition justice programme with a view to enable the country to move away from a culture of dictatorship, which the citizens endured for over two decades, to building a culture of democracy, human rights and good governance
