UNDP 2020 annual review & 2021 planning meeting

2020 marks the fourth year of implementation of the UNDP Gambia Country Programme Document (2017-2021) (CPD). For the 2 days from 3 – 4 December, UNDP; together with its partners are undertaking a strategic review and reflection of the Country Programme over the last three years, with a view of aligning the Programme strategic offer to needs and aspirations of a post-transition Gambia, taking into account the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic.

UNDP’s advisory role and financial support to the government facilitated the implementation of development initiatives designed to boost national capacity as well as promote national efforts to eradicate poverty in the quest to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In complementing government efforts, UNDP programmes and interventions have resulted in tangible outcomes whose impact can be felt throughout the Country, especially in remote areas statedMs. Salma Touray, Deputy Secretary General, Office of the President,during her opening remarks.

The meeting involves plenary sessions with representatives of  the government of The Gambia, democratic institutions and diversepartners including CSOs, Private Sector and Academia, to reviewprogress and achievements realized in 2020 together with challenges, lessons learnt and recommendations to help craft the annual programme for 2021.

“UNDP will continue to support The Gambia in its realization of the National Development Plan as we collectively also pursue the acceleration of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We shall pursue eradication of poverty, recover better from the devastating impacts of COVID-19 through inclusive economic growth, building the skills of the youth and empoweringwomen as we support the consolidation of peace and democratic transition in The Gambiasaid Ms. Aissata De, Resident Representative of UNDP The Gambia in her opening statement.

The meeting was held at the Kairaba Hotel and attended virtually by participants in The Gambia and across the sub-region in view of COVID-19 protocols. The meeting is being conducted in a COVID-19 compliant environment thus guidelines on physical distancing, wearing of masks, temperature checks and use of hand sanitizers are being strictly observed.
