POLICE CHARGE GUNJUR YOUTHS WITH INCITEMENT OF CRIME

52

Six natives of Gunjur, a coastal fishing village in Kombo South, have been charged with incitement of crime for protesting against the activities of a Chinese company they said is polluting their environment.

Little over a dozen young people planned the protest but it could not hold because of the early arrest of their colleagues.

The youths activist were arrested on Sunday morning by paramilitary officers and taken to Gunjur police station, later to Siffoe and moved after to another location.

The police spokesperson David Kujabi confirmed to Kerr Fatou the arrest but could not tell when the youths may make a court appearance.

Meanwhile, over a dozen paramilitary officers in crowd-control gears have guarded the Chinese complex, at least one of them carrying an AK47 riffle.

As the police escorted the three detainees to a truck parked near the Golden Lead, one paramilitary office yelled, referring to the onlookers, “back off”, “move” if you have not come here for work
