As part of the contribution to covid-19 response, Paradise Foundation has on Monday donated medical equipment worth D1.2 million to the government of The Gambia through the ministries of Social Welfare and Health, at a presentation at the Paradise Suite hotel.
The consignment consists of respiratory masks, oxygen cylinders, mobility equipment, manual and electronic wheel chairs, cervical collars, oxygen tanks, nebulizer machine, infusion pumps, and Paediatric nutrition amongst others.
The Paradise Foundation, is a Gambian philanthropic organisation, that seeks to empower communities to improve their health, education and livelihoods. It’s also intends to support government’s efforts in servicing its communities.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of The Gambia government, Fatou Kinteh, Minister of Women’s Affairs, Children and Social Welfare said that this donation will go towards meeting the needs of the elderly, physically challenged and those who are bedridden.
“These materials will put smiles to the large number of elderly people, physically disabled persons due to sickness and accidents and as well bedridden people,” she said. “This equipment will go a long way in meeting the demands of Gambian citizens in the hospitals and those at home who cannot move around freely.”
she emphasised that the work of the Paradise Foundation will in a very big way compliments the efforts of government, adding that the government of The Gambia cannot do it alone as its needs the support of philanthropists like Paradise Foundation and Paradise Suites Hotel.
“President Adama Barrow is doing a lot within the needs of all Gambians but government cannot do it alone as it needs the support of others philanthropist like Paradise Foundation.”
She went on behalf of the Gambia government to thank the Paradise Foundation and the management of Paradise Suites Hotel for taken up the bold initiative to boots the Gambia government in its efforts to provide quality health services to the Gambian people.
“As part of the foundation’s contribution to the national covid-19 response, on the 20th March 2020, the Paradise Foundation engaged the Ministry of Health to provide additional support to the ministry’s covid-9 response approach,” said Binta Jobe, who spoke on behalf of the foundation.
She added that the consignment of the medical equipment was originally meant to be distributed to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital and some of the items for mobilise challenged individuals but they decided to join the fight against the global pandemic of covid-19 to compliment government’s efforts.
“The worthy beneficiaries of the equipment will be distributed by the ministry of health and other institutions we considered as partners including the ministry of Women’s Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, The Gambia Red Cross Society, elderly and disabled people as well as other private hospitals.”
Paradise Foundation together with Paradise Suits Hotel has been engage in periodic support to community health facilities, schools and places of worship as part of its social responsibilities. The foundation also assists on education, health, communities, gives humanitarian responses as well as establishing a gender-based project breaking the culture of and creating an enabling environment for Gender-based violence survivor funded by FEVE government of Luxembourg.
