In a gesture of generosity and solidarity, the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC) on Thursday provided food and essential supplies to 67 bedridden pensioners across the country. The initiative, part of the corporation’s annual Ramadan outreach, seeks to offer relief to elderly citizens who are unable to care for themselves due to age or illness.

The donation ceremony, held at SSHFC’s headquarters in Banjul, underscores the institution’s commitment to honoring those who have contributed to the country’s workforce. Each year, the corporation extends support to vulnerable pensioners, ensuring they are not forgotten during the holy month of Ramadan.

Saloum Malang, the managing director of SSHFC, emphasized the importance of the initiative, describing it as a vital act of gratitude toward the retirees.

“As we gather during this blessed month of Ramadan, a time of compassion, generosity, and spiritual reflection, we are reminded of the importance of extending kindness to those in need. For many years, this initiative has been a cornerstone of our efforts to bring comfort and joy to bedridden pensioners, ensuring that they feel valued and remembered during this holy month,” He Said.

He further reaffirmed SSHFC’s dedication to ensuring that pensioners remain supported and appreciated.

“To our dear pensioners, you are the pillars of our society. Your years of dedication, hard work, and sacrifice have laid the foundation for the progress we enjoy today. It is both our duty and our honor to give back to you, not just through words, but through meaningful actions that demonstrate our gratitude and respect. These Ramadan gifts, though modest, are a token of our appreciation and a reminder that your contributions will never be forgotten,” He Said.

Alagie Chox Faal, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to SSHFC for its continued support and for remembering pensioners during Ramadan.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the corporation to promote social welfare and ensure that retired workers receive the care and dignity they deserve.
