MoHERST Holds Five-Day Sector Retreat in Kanilai

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (MoHERST) has commenced a five-day sector retreat in Kanilai, West Coast Region, aimed at enhancing institutional efficiency and strengthening coordination for improved service delivery.

The retreat, which began on Monday, brings together key stakeholders, including representatives from all line institutions and chairs of governing councils, to assess progress, address challenges, and set strategic priorities for 2025. Discussions will focus on institutional development, program accreditation, research output, and policy implementation while fostering cross-institutional collaboration and enhancing governance.

Speaking at the opening session, Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology, Prof. Pierre Gomez, underscored the retreat’s significance as a platform for actionable decision-making.

“This retreat is not merely a formality—it is a working session that must yield concrete, actionable outcomes. I urge each of you to actively participate, to engage in discussions with an open mind, and to propose bold, innovative solutions that will propel our sector forward. By the end of this retreat, we should have a clear roadmap for the year ahead, one that ensures we are making measurable progress in achieving our objectives,” Prof. Pierre Gomez said.Deputy Permanent Secretary at MoHERST, Ndey Fatou Trawally, also emphasized the importance of collaborative dialogue in shaping a shared vision aligned with national and global educational priorities.

“This retreat is not just a moment for presentations but a strategic forum where we collaboratively identify key performance indicators, explore shared resources, and develop actionable strategies that will shape the future of our institutions. Over the next five days, we will engage in meaningful discussions, review sector-wide challenges, and establish a unified vision that aligns with national and global educational priorities,” DPS Trawally noted.

The retreat is expected to produce a comprehensive roadmap that will guide MoHERST’s strategic direction, ensuring tangible progress in the higher education sector.
