IEC Announces Nomination Dates for Messembeh Ward By-Election

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has scheduled nomination dates for candidates contesting in the upcoming Messembeh Ward by-election, set for February 22, 2025.

According to the IEC, the nomination for the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate will take place on Wednesday, February 5, while the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate will be nominated on Thursday, February 6.

The by-election was necessitated by the passing of Bakary Korita, the UDP councilor for Messembeh Ward in the Mansakonko Administrative Area. The IEC has also announced that the official campaign period will run from February 10 to 20, 2025.

The contest for the vacant seat will be between the ruling NPP and the opposition UDP.
