Modou Mboob, a prominent member of the Citizens’ Alliance (CA), has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Secretary General and Party Leader, setting up a contest against Dr. Ismaila Ceesay at the party’s forthcoming National Elective Congress.

“In light of the upcoming Citizens’ Alliance (CA)  National Elective Congress, I wish to declare my intention to contest for the position of Secretary General and Party Leader,” Mboob said, emphasizing the urgent need for change within the party.

Mboob expressed deep concern about the state of the CA, a party that once inspired hope among Gambians, particularly the youth. He criticized what he described as ineffective leadership, which he claims has undermined the party’s ability to fulfill its mission of driving political and socio-economic development.

“CA, a political party that brought so much hope among Gambians, particularly the young people, has been struggling to maintain its structures and contribute meaningfully to our country’s political and socio-economic development. A party once considered by many as an institution that came to restore hope and dignity by emancipating Gambians from poverty, underdevelopment, and poor leadership has been brought under the radar of ineffective leadership,” he remarked.

Mboob has called on members of the Citizens’ Alliance (CA) to step forward with ideas and dedication to help revitalize the party and realign its operations with the aspirations of the Gambian people, as well as the founding principles and values upon which it was established. He expressed concern that the current leadership of CA is deviating from these core ideals, emphasizing that such a shift must be addressed through democratic means. Mboob declared his readiness, willingness, and commitment to lead this process and guide the party back to its intended path.

“With your support, trust, and shared vision, we will build a viable party and a country that will be the envy of the world. Let’s do this CA members; let’s do this Gambia, for it is NOW or never! My fellow party comrades, it’s important to bring to your notice that there is already a division within the party executive members on whether the 2024 elective congress should be held on the 28th of December, 2024 as planned or be postponed to a later date,” he said.

He emphasized that he and his team firmly believe the party’s 2024 elective congress must proceed without interference, ensuring that the process and procedures remain uncompromised. He cautioned that any attempt by the executive body to alter the congress date would constitute a breach of the party’s constitution and a clear violation of his civil and political rights, as guaranteed under both the Citizens’ Alliance constitution and national laws.

“Evidently, party members are already calling for a change of leadership, and my team is already assured of victory, for the good of all of us. Finally, I implore all party members to participate in this democratic process and make sure their voices are heard. Together we can ensure accountability and servant leadership,” he concluded.
