The former Clerk of the National Assembly, Momodou A. Sise, officially handed over his office to his successor, Khalifa MM. Mbye, on Thursday, marking the end of his six-year tenure characterized by dedicated service.

The handover ceremony followed Mr. Sise’s retirement, during which he was lauded for his significant contributions to the growth and development of the National Assembly.

Mr. Khalifa MM. Mbye, who was appointed as the new Clerk in October 2024, previously served as Deputy Clerk for Legal and Procedural Matters for over two years. He is set to begin his new role officially on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fabakary T. Jatta, praised Mr. Sise for his remarkable service and leadership.


“We want to thank you for the selfless service you have rendered to the national assembly. You have contributed immensely to the development of the house, and it will not be taken for granted. We are wishing you all the best in your future endeavors,” he expressed.

Mr. Jatta highlighted Sise’s mentorship and compassionate leadership, which he said inspired both staff and members of the Assembly.

Members of Parliament also paid tribute to Mr. Sise, describing him as a peaceful, approachable leader who prioritized engagement and the welfare of his staff. They commended his passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the Assembly throughout his career.

In an emotional speech, Mr. Sise expressed gratitude to the management and staff of the Assembly for their support during his tenure. He also voiced confidence in Mr. Mbye’s ability to uphold the responsibilities of the Clerk’s office, ensuring the continued growth of the institution.
