Members of the National Assembly on Monday approved the 2025 Appropriation Bill, authorizing government expenditure of D37,848,776,334 for the fiscal year beginning 1st January and ending 31st December 2025.
The approval followed the budget speech delivered by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Hon. Seedy Keita, on Friday. In his presentation, Minister Keita outlined the government’s policies and proposed expenditures for the upcoming year.
Monday’s session, which was initially slated for debate, took a different turn when members opted to move directly to the Committee of Supply. The bill was reviewed at this stage without amendments, paving the way for its swift passage.
Following the second reading, the Speaker invited the Minister to move the motion for the bill’s third reading. Minister Keita proceeded to move that the 2025 Appropriation Bill, having been considered without amendments, be read a third time and passed.
According to the bill, the authorized sum of D37,848,776,334 will be drawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund to finance the government’s expenditures as specified in the Act’s Schedule.
Addressing members of the Assembly, Minister Keita expressed gratitude for the collaboration between the executive and legislature throughout the budget process. He emphasized the importance of fully implementing the approved budget to achieve the government’s development goals.
“I hasten to put on record our appreciation, and the government’s appreciation, of the collaboration between the executive and the legislature in approving the appropriation and facilitating the budget process. It has been a rigorous journey, with workshops, policies, and measures undertaken to realize this budget,” he stated..
During his budget speech on Friday, the minister stated that the 2025 budget aims to drive economic development by delivering quality services in key sectors such as agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, and the modernization of Public Administration, fostering more inclusive and resilient growth.
He highlighted the government’s focus on strengthening human capital through investments in education and health, supporting poverty alleviation initiatives, including emergency relief programs, and continuing investments in infrastructure and energy.
“To this end, the theme of the 2025 Budget is Bolstering Economic Growth and Reducing Vulnerabilities while Ensuring Fiscal Sustainability,” he told the National Assembly.
