Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, leader of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), has told party supporters in Foni that former President Yahya Jammeh’s return to The Gambia cannot happen without the influence of the current president, Adama Barrow.
Speaking at a rally in Sibanor, Hon. Jatta addressed APRC supporters, emphasizing the role President Barrow plays in the matter.
“President Barrow has all the sympathy for President Jammeh and his family, but we must understand that he alone does not run the government. He might want to act, but we must first accept and support him. For Jammeh to return to this country, it cannot happen without the involvement of the sitting president.
“When former President Jawara left, who was able to bring him back apart from Yahya Jammeh? At the time, Jawara had significant support from the West and Africa, yet he could not return until Jammeh forgave and facilitated his comeback. Today, you have alliances with Sheikh Tijan and Mama Kandeh, but we all know these two do not have the influence to bring back Yahya Jammeh. Their intentions are clear, and we have endured a lot of challenges. Many people are speaking out and criticizing now, but I wonder where they were before,” Jatta remarked.
Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, who also serves as Speaker of the National Assembly, urged APRC supporters to unite and move forward. He reminded them that the tenure of the current party executive will eventually come to an end and encouraged reconciliation among supporters.
“It’s time for us to come together and leave our past differences behind. Unity is the only way forward for our party,” he said.
