President Adama Barrow has emphasized that The Gambia’s 2024 Draft Constitution aims to establish a transparent and accountable governance system. He made these remarks while addressing the 66th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government in Nigeria.

“At home, my government remains committed to good governance, institution building, and infrastructural development. Our priorities include peace, security, and inclusive development through major reforms and economic policies adopted to improve living standards. A draft constitution for the Third Republic of The Gambia grounded in the rule of law, democratic principles, and development has been presented to the National Assembly. “This draft constitution ensures respect for the values of Gambians. It upholds the principle of the “separation of powers” and seeks to establish a transparent and accountable governance system,” President Barrow said.

He added that the proposed constitution reflects Gambian values, upholds the separation of powers, and seeks to establish transparency and accountability in governance.

President Barrow also commended the Gambian security forces and the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) for their efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
“We are immensely grateful to this august body and all our partners and donors, especially the troop-contributing countries, for their support and commitment to peace and stability in The Gambia. On the establishment of a Special Tribunal, we express deep gratitude to all Member States for their support. The Tribunal will solely prosecute persons accused of gross human rights violations in the past. To succeed in all these areas, we need your continued partnership and support,” President Barrow said.

President Barrow delivered his remarks during the 66th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Nigeria.
