Real De Banjul Clinches GFF Super Cup After Dominating Medina United

Real De Banjul Football Club, the champions of the 2023-2024 Baluwo Sponsored Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Division One League, have claimed the GFF Super Cup title.
In a thrilling encounter at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama, Real De Banjul faced off against Medina United in the curtain-raiser for the new season of the GFF Division One League.
The fourteen-time league champions proved too much for Medina United, showing their class and experience throughout the match.
The game started with both teams displaying resilience and composure, but it was Real De Banjul’s maturity that tipped the scales. They took the lead in the 30th minute when Abdoulie Baldeh, the club’s quick winger, converted a penalty after being fouled inside the box by Medina United’s defender.
Despite going a goal down, Medina United responded with vigor, but their attempts were thwarted by Real De Banjul’s seasoned goalkeeper, Lamin Saidy.
The first half ended 1-0 in favor of Real De Banjul, with Medina United still looking for an equalizer.
In the second half, Medina United continued to press for a goal, but Real De Banjul’s defense remained impenetrable. Medina United made a tactical change with a triple substitution, but Real De Banjul quickly followed suit with a change of their own.
In the 80th minute, Real De Banjul extended their lead through substitute Sheikh Jaw, making it 2-0 and leaving Medina United with a daunting task. Despite several attempts, Medina United could not break through Real De Banjul’s resolute defense.
The match ended 2-0 in favor of the Baluwo-sponsored GFF Division One League champions. Real De Banjul walked away with a giant trophy and a cash prize of One Hundred Thousand Dalasis (D100,000), while Medina United earned a cash prize of Seventy-Five Thousand Dalasis (D75,000).
The 2024-2025 Baluwo Sponsored GFF Division One League will officially kick off on Friday, November 29, 2024.
