Binta Darboe, a dedicated supporter of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has responded to Women Representative Councilor Matty Kanyi’s remarks concerning Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe.

Darboe emphasized that Mayor Lowe, as a party executive, has every right to voice her opinions and that Kanyi’s comments do not bring anything new to the ongoing discussions among those advocating for Talib Bensouda.

“It has come to me as a surprise when nominated councilor Matty Kanyi responds to Rohey Lowe on behalf of Talib Bensouda. I want to remind her that Robey Malick Lowe deserves respect too as a party executive and hasn’t said anything new about what’s happening from you and your members speaking for Talib. I believe people like you are the ones bringing problems to our party because you are not Talib’s PRO or KMC PRO to respond to Rohey Mayoress Lowe,” Darboe stated.

She further accused Matty Kanyi and others in her camp of spreading misinformation against Mayor Lowe and some senior executive members of the UDP.

“Therefore, I am calling on you to withdraw your threatening words to our Lord Mayor as she has good intentions for our party, country and party leader to lead us into 2026 In Shaa Allah.

“Rohey Lowe has also supported a lot of people and individuals in the Gambia within the UDP to change their lives and has never hid to go and meet President Adama Barrow. Robey Lowe is the Alkalo of Adama Barrow, and she deserves a positive working relationship with her in the interest of Banjul. Adama Barrow knows Rohey is UDP and 100% behind HE ANM Darboe,” she said.

Binta Darboe also urged UDP members to focus on fostering unity and cooperation within the party as they approach the 2026 elections, rather than attacking Mayor Lowe. She expressed that Matty Kanyi, as a representative, should have promoted positive relationships among UDP leaders and party members instead of challenging an elected executive member.

“I think you should reach out to the Lord (Mayor) and call for continued Unity in our party rather than what you’ve said. I am also telling you that enough is enough for people like you to bring disunity to our great party. No one’s camp would destroy this great party. We are UDP Kankiling and Ousainou Darboe is our party leader,” she concluded.
