Nasir Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School hosted its annual graduation and prize giving ceremony for the 2023-2024 academic year at the Nasir Ahmadiyya School Hall on June 29th, 2024, 

Mr. Karamo Touray, the Principal of the school, commended the graduates for their dedication to academic excellence, urging them to uphold the school’s values with integrity. He highlighted the importance of responsible social media use, emphasizing its role in fostering critical thinking and global understanding among students.

“Through social media, students can participate in discussions, share resources, and gain diverse perspectives. This connectivity enhances their critical thinking and broadens their understanding of different cultures and viewpoints. Accordingly, social media can serve as a platform for students to showcase their talents, creativity, and achievements, building their confidence and preparing them for the digital age,” he said.

Acknowledging the crucial role of teachers, staff, and donor partners, Mr. Touray expressed gratitude for their unwavering support in nurturing student growth.

Mr. Demba Kandeh, a seasoned journalist, commended the graduates on their exceptional performance throughout their challenging academic journey. His presentation focused on the detrimental impact of technology, particularly social media, on Gambian society. He highlighted issues such as cyberbullying, hate speech, misinformation, misrepresentation, and privacy invasion prevalent on social platforms. Kandeh emphasized to his audience that in today’s digital age, everyone with a smartphone is essentially a journalist, urging them to refrain from harassing individuals online.

He concluded by urging the public to critically evaluate and fact-check information before sharing it, stressing the importance of responsible social media usage. Kandeh encouraged the graduates to leverage their education to positively transform society, advocating against the propagation of hate speech on digital platforms.

Mahmoud Y. Barry, a top student in the Art Department, shared insights into his academic journey, stressing the importance of dedication and consistent effort in achieving success. He encouraged fellow students to prioritize their studies and attend classes regularly.

Reflecting on the ceremony, Mr. Dot from the Graduation Committee praised the event’s organization and improvement over previous years. He extended congratulations to all graduates and expressed gratitude to parents and guests for their support.

The ceremony included awards for academic excellence, recognition of school club achievements, and engaging performances by the Drama Club and Sarahule Cultural Dancing group. These activities underscored important societal issues and celebrated cultural diversity.

As Nasir Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School looks forward to future graduations, the event concluded with optimism for the continued success and growth of its graduates and the school community.
