Yahya Sonko, a migration activist in Germany, has confirmed the release of six Gambian detainees from the Pforzheim Deportation Center.
“Yesterday, six Gambian detainees were released from the Pforzheim Deportation Center. As a seasoned migration activist in Germany, I want to express my deep sorrow for every Gambian youth who has endured the traumatic experience of being arrested, chained, and detained in deportation prisons. This is undeniably a difficult and distressing moment for them. To the recently released detainees, I strongly advise you to voluntarily leave Germany as soon as possible. Your release today does not guarantee that you will be allowed to stay in Germany permanently. Authorities may still attempt to deport you at any time,” Yahya said.
He took the opportunity to thank those who assisted in the detainees’ release.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the lawyers, comrades, and individual supporters who attended court sessions, visited detention centers, and engaged with authorities on behalf of these detainees. Your efforts and dedication have been invaluable. Additionally, I acknowledge the significant roles played by some employers and government officials in this process. To my brothers and sisters in the EU, I urge you to do your utmost to integrate into your communities. If you have exhausted all your options, consider leaving voluntarily or exploring other opportunities before facing potential deportation,” he said.
Sonko also noted that there are no official reports confirming the cancellation of the scheduled charter deportation flight from Germany to The Gambia on June 25, 2024.
“We will inform the public as soon as we confirm any updates regarding the 25.06.2024 deportation flight,” he concluded.
