Following Eid prayers at the King Fahad Mosque, President Adama Barrow of the Gambia has called upon the nation to come together in support of the 15th OIC Summit, which is to be held on May 4–5.

In his address to reporters, President Barrow highlighted the significance of hosting such a substantial event, emphasizing the honor and privilege bestowed upon the Gambian people. Despite being among the smallest nations within the Ummah, Gambia’s selection as the host nation reflects a profound trust from the Muslim community. Encouraging unity and active participation, President Barrow stressed the importance of ensuring the summit’s success, underscoring its potential to leave a lasting legacy for the Gambian populace.

“Also, another message to the Gambian people is that we will be hosting the OIC Summit this year. OIC Summit is a big occasion. Is the biggest gathering as far as Muslim Ummah is concerned. So we are hosting it in the Gambia, it is a lot of honour and is a privilege for the Gambian people.

“Because we are one of the smallest countries in the Ummah, but they trust Gambia to host this occasion here. So I think Gambians Should welcome that, Gambians Should Support It and we should all come out in our numbers to make sure that we organize a very successful OIC Summit. So that it will be a legacy for the Gambian people,” President Barrow said. The Gambia joined the global Muslim community in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, also known as Koriteh, which marks the end of Ramadan. President Barrow praised the Gambian people for their peaceful demeanor during the holy month.

“First, I will thank Allah for witnessing this day and fasting the entire month of Ramadan. I think is a big achievement. I will seize the opportunity to congratulate the entire Ummah, particularly the Gambian people for maintaining peace and stability in this country. Because I have always said that if we want to develop this country, we have to maintain peace and stability. That is the message to the Gambian people,” President Barrow said.

The Gambia is actively preparing for the 15th OIC Summit next month, an event that takes place every three years and plays a critical role in policy formulation and resolution adoption, in accordance with the OIC’s charter goals.

The Islamic Summit is a key decision-making body within the OIC, ranking alongside the Council of Foreign Ministers, Standing Committees, Executive Committee, and the International Islamic Court of Justice.
