The Gambia Police Force (GPF) unveiled its roadmap for the next five years with the validation of its National Policing Strategic Plan for 2024-2028.
This comprehensive document outlines the Police’s commitment to serving the Gambian people effectively through democratic policing principles and best practices.
The plan expresses the Police’s shared vision, mission statements, and strategic goals.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Administration Demba Sowe, who represented the Inspector General, highlighted the importance of endorsing the document, seeing it as a key step in maintaining professionalism in society and adapting to a changing world.
“This marks a pivotal moment in our collective journey towards entrenching and enhancing the practice of human security. As the Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force, I am deeply honored to witness the culmination of extensive efforts, collaboration, and dedication put forth by our esteemed officers and partners in formulating this strategic roadmap.
“This plan not only reflects our commitment to excellence but also underscores Our unwavering determination to adapt and evolve in a rapidly changing world. In today’s dynamic security landscape, characterized by evolving threats and challenges, the importance of strategic foresight cannot be overstated,” AIG Sowe told the gathering.
AIG Sowe also says that the Policing document will help the Police deal with various crimes, including national and cross-border ones, among others.
“Our ability to anticipate emerging trends, leverage technological advancements, and foster partnerships is paramount in ensuring the effectiveness and relevance of our law enforcement efforts. This national policing strategic plan we are about to validate is not merely a document. It is a blueprint for action.
“It outlines clear objectives, identifies key priorities, and delineates actionable strategies to address a number of complex issues ranging from transnational crime and terrorism to cybersecurity and community policing. Moreover, this plan embodies our firm commitment to upholding the principles of accountability, transparency, respect for human rights, and the rule of law in all our endeavors,” he said.
Mr. Assan Tangara, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, who spoke for his Minister, points out the extra benefits the Policing document will bring to the Gambia Police Force.
Mr. Tangara said that the document will boost community policing efficiency and increase the skills of Gambia Police Force members.
The strategic plan intends to create a professional and competent police force by recruiting qualified staff and giving them regular training and development. This will ensure that the police can provide high-standard services, follow discipline and integrity, and treat the public fairly.
The strategic plan also allows the Police to use resources wisely and transparently; keep a comprehensive and reliable database; and strengthen the weak areas of investigation and prosecution in the GPF.
The strategic plan will also support the GPF to have adequate infrastructure, accommodation, logistics, and funds to enhance its operations.
