Momodou Sabally, former Campaign Manager of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced that he will soon be embarking on a nationwide tour to mobilize support for the National People’s Party (NPP).

Sabally disclosed his plans in his first public statement on Facebook since joining the NPP after parting ways with the UDP.

“Work starts now, and I will soon embark on a journey to visit every nook and cranny of this country to mobilize support  for the NPP and the President’s development agenda in a way and manner that will be the envy of the greatest nations on planet earth inshaa Allah,” Sabally said.

Addressing his recent move, Sabally acknowledged the emotional reactions generated by his decision to join the NPP, emphasizing his deliberate silence on social media to avoid rash responses. He expressed gratitude for both positive and negative reactions, considering them as integral parts of a collective statement.

“I did not want to make any irrational reaction to posts and comments, and that is why I remained mute to protect my relationship with people. Thank you for all the reactions, both positive and negative, because it all added up to create one big statement…,” he said.

Regarding his allegiance shift, Sabally clarified that his decision to join the NPP was not directed against any individual or group. He stressed that the move was pro-Gambia and conveyed deep respect for his former political affiliation with the UDP.

“Coming to the matter at hand, I took a decision to join the National People’s Party and that was, perhaps, the most difficult decision I ever took in my life. The decision was not made #against any individual or group. This decision was made pro #Gambia. I left a political party to join another one. The party I belonged to for the past few years is a party that I honour and respect and that respect will forever remain unchanged,” he said.

While acknowledging his special relationship with UDP Leader Alhagie Ousainou Darboe, Sabally assured that his respect for Darboe remains undiminished despite the change in party membership. He described Darboe as the individual who had the greatest impact on his political career.

“My relationship with the leader of the UDP, His Excellency Alhagie Ousainou Darboe was a special one. My love and respect for him will forever remain untainted, inshaa Allah. I am no longer a member of his party, but I do know that I will forever remain his son.

“The great Lawyer will forever be remembered as the one man who has had the greatest impact on my political career so far. I have moved on in my politics, and all my skills and energy in that sphere will henceforth be deployed in favour of His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the NPP,” he said.

Expressing gratitude, Sabally thanked President Adama Barrow for accepting him into the NPP, commending the president’s patience and tolerance.

“I am most profoundly grateful to President Barrow and his family for their patience and tolerance. I am indeed eternally indebted to President Barrow for accepting me into his party with great honour. Given the obvious antecedents in the political arena, I am firmly convinced that President Barrow is imbued with a spirit of tolerance and inclusivity. It is my fervent belief that if we help the President, he can reconcile this country and put The Gambia on a solid pedestal for unprecedented socio-economic growth and development underpinned by peace love and unity in a healthy democratic space,” he concluded.
