Four Junglers released from state custody
Barely 24 hours after Justice Minister Abubacarr Tambadou met the victims at the Victims Centre, four Junglers have been released from state custody.
The army spokesperson Major Lamin Sanyang told Kerr Fatou that Malick Jatta, Omar Jallow, Pa Ousman Sanneh and Amadou Badgie were released on Saturday morning. The 4 have testified before the Truth Commission in the past few weeks.
The 4 Junglers are member of a hit-squad operating on the orders of former President Yahya Jammeh. The four Junglers have jointly confessed to over 50 executions including the killing of journalist Deyda Hydara.
Their release was recommended by Justice Minister Tambadou.
The issue caused huge controversy among Gambians especially victims.
The Junglers who were in state custody since 2017 were released on conditions that they will testify in any future state prosecution and also subject themselves to psychosocial support from the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission.
