President Barrow: Banjul Could Have Been Like America If “Proper” Work Had Been Done In Past 50 Years

His Excellency President Adama Barrow expressed that had the country seen diligent development efforts over the past five decades prior to his ascension to power, Banjul, the nation’s capital, would resemble the United States of America (USA).
Reflecting on the past half-century, he stated in Mandinka, “Over the last 50 years, with proper development efforts prior to my tenure, Banjul should have been a thriving city where even a needle would find no place to be buried. My expectation was to encounter a Banjul as developed as the United States of America. Unfortunately, upon assuming office, I encountered numerous potholes on Banjul’s roads and issues with waterlogging, with even the vicinity of my State House often marred by sewage water. Our guests often had to be escorted through alternative routes.”
President Barrow continued, “I believe that Allah chose me, President Barrow, to serve as the father of the entire nation, The Gambia. Even those who criticize me persistently find solace in my police stations when faced with problems, and when they fall ill, they turn to my hospitals. It’s ironic that the same people who criticize me also rely on my services. We hear their criticisms, but we also observe their actions.”
These statements were made by President Barrow during a gathering in Mankamang Kunda in the Upper River Region (URR). The meeting took place while he was on his annual leave and engaged with a group of visitors.
