Rohey Malick Lowe, the president of Rafaela Africa and Mayor of Banjul City Council (BCC), announced that she has secured one million dollars from Madam Luiza Trajano, a Brazilian billionaire, to help women in Banjul. The money will be used to fund projects that promote women’s empowerment and economic development.
“Yesterday, I was privileged to attend a breakfast meeting with the first lady of Brazil, Rosângela Lula Da Silva, and Madam Luiza Trajano, the lady who is going to empower the women of Banjul with $1 million grant through REFELA, the Gambia national chapter,” mayor Lowe announced on her Facebook page.
She continued, “In attendance at the breakfast meeting also was the Executive Director of UN Habitat – Maimunah Sharif and her team, as representatives from the UN Capital Development Fund and UN Development Programme amongst others.”
According to the Banjul Mayor, they engaged in fruitful discussions on how to embark on the implementation of the $1 million programme for the women of Banjul granted by the philanthropist Luiza Trajano.
“On behalf of the women of Banjul, I wish to thank Madam Luiza for understanding the vulnerability of the Banjul women and have come to support them. We remain forever grateful to you, Madam. We can now say it has been SIGNED, SEALED, AND DELIVERED,” she concluded.
The respected Billionaire Luiza Trajano also wrote on her Twitter account;
“Today, in New York, I participated in the Women Led Cities meeting, which promotes women’s leadership for the Just Transition and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together with global leaders, mayors, entrepreneurs, ministers and UN representatives, we talked about important initiatives that will take place in Brazil in relation to gender equality and female empowerment. Thrilled to hear reports as powerful as that of the @Lowe Mayor of Banjul, in the Gambia, and that of the mayor of Eastpointe Monique Owens. We continue together to build a more fair, equal and inclusive world,” she concluded.
