The opposition National Unity Party (NUP) has announced that it will endorse United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Talib Ahmed Bensouda for the Kanifing Municipal Mayoral Election and Independent candidate Ahmad Gitteh for the West Coast Region Chairperson election.

“The Executive Committee of the National Unity Party (NUP) met and agreed to endorse the following candidates in the upcoming Local Government Elections: Talib Ahmed Bensouda for Kanifing Municipal Council, Ahmad Gitteh for Brikama Area Council, Babou Kebbeh for Kerewan Area Council,” NUP announced through a press release.

The party said the decision to endorse Talib Ahmed Bensouda is based on his past record as Mayor of KMC.

“NUP believes that supporting him is beyond partisan politics, and he should be given another opportunity to continue the great work he has started. The Party’s decision to endorse Ahmad Gitteh and Babou Kebbeh, is informed by the manifestos of the two candidates and the discussions the Executive Committee had with them. We believe that the two have their own horizons to effectively lead the respective Councils they are vying for and positively impact the lives as well as livelihoods of the citizenry. Therefore, we implore all NUP supporters and Gambians at large to massively vote for these candidates,” they concluded.

The National Unity Party (NUP) was established in August 2018 and got registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on 5th October 2020. They contested during the 2021 presidential election. They have not contested in any election since.
