MC Cham Jr, former campaign manager of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has called on political parties to use evidence in Banjul to sue people involved in buying voter’s cards.

“No one has the right to take someone else’s voter’s card to your home. The police should charge the person to set an example. This is open evidence and the political parties should write to the IEC and they (IEC) should issue statements for people to stay away from vote buying. They (IEC) should take steps and condemn it. If NPP claims that they have the people’s support and they had a massive victory during the presidential election, why are they openly buying votes in Banjul? President Barrow should look into the people who are working for him.

“If you have to pay money for people to vote for you, then you don’t have their support and people don’t want you. I was in APRC but I have never heard of taking someone’s voter’s card and asking the person to swear to vote for your candidate. Even during the By-election in Niamina, people were complaining about the same thing. Let the parties collect the evidence. The money, rice, and cooking pots they are giving out are against the electoral act and it is a crime. This is open evidence that you can take to court,” MC Cham Jr said

MC Cham Jr’s statement came after Hon. Touma Njie, the National Assembly Member for Banjul South Constituency confirmed reporting one Antouman for buying voter’s cards in Banjul. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is yet to comment on the issue.
