Hon. Touma Njie, the National Assembly Member for Banjul South Constituency has confirmed reporting one Antouman Ngum to the police for allegedly buying voter’s cards in Banjul.

“I can attest that it is true (Vote buying) because some boys called me and said someone took their voters cards and gave them five hundred Dalasis. They were told they will get their cards back on the day of the elections and they will have to swear who they will vote for, for them to get their voter’s cards returned to them to vote. I asked them who took their voter cards, and they said it was Antouman who took their voters cards and refused to give it back to them,” she explained in a WhatsApp audio.

The National Assembly Member for Banjul South Constituency said it was at this time that she reported the matter to the police who were able to retrieve three voter’s cards from Antouman.

“I reported the matter to the police and they brought Antouman in. He went to his house and brought the voter’s cards. He brought three voter cards and I know he has more there. The entire country should go to IEC and their candidates should be banned from contesting. Because what they are doing is illegal and wrong. They are stripping people of their rights because if you take someone’s card you have cheated the person of his or her Civic rights which is wrong and illegal,” she said.

We were unable to reach the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to comment on this matter as we go to press.
