Gambia’s Judiciary Gets New Judicial Secretary

Mr. Abdou Conteh as the new Judicial Secretary

The President of the Republic of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, has on the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission, appointed Mr. Abdou Conteh as the new Judicial Secretary of the country.

“The Judiciary of The Gambia is excited to announce that the President, His Excellency Adama Barrow, acting on the recommendations of the Judicial Service Commission, has appointed Mr. Abdou Conteh as the new Judicial Secretary. Mr. Conteh’s appointment took effect on April 3rd, 2023. He replaces Hon. Justice Aisatou Jallow-Sey, who is now a High Court Judge.  

“Until his appointment, Mr. Abdou Conteh served as Honorable Sheriff of The Gambia- a post he held from 2019 to 2023. At the Judiciary of The Gambia, he held various positions from Court Clerk, Registrar at the various Courts, and Chief Registrar at the Supreme Court of The Gambia.  Conteh holds a Law Degree (LLB) from the University of The Gambia in 2014 and a Barrister at Law (BL) from The Gambia Law School in 2016,” the Judiciary said in a statement. 

The Judiciary of the Gambia said Mr. Conteh’s wealth of experience and institutional knowledge of the Judiciary is expected to add value to their work as they move to sustain gains made thus far in the justice sector.  

“As Judicial Secretary, Conteh is expected to carry out the administrative work and offer technical advice to the Hon Chief Justice in the day-to-day running of the Courts. He will be assisted by a team of administrative staff,” the Judiciary said in a statement.
