ECOWAS Commission President Receives WATAF Chairman In Abuja

His Excellency, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, received Mr. Yankuba Darboe, the Chairman of the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) and Commissioner General of The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday, December 2, 2022.

In a statement released by the ECOWAS commission, Mr. Darboe is reported to have touched on the support that ECOWAS has been giving WATAF over the years and seeking ways to further strengthen those ties.


“Mr. Darboe in his remarks informed the President of the ECOWAS Commission that ECOWAS has been supporting WATAF over the years and was at the Commission to seek enhanced partnership and support. Tax administration, he added, is important for development of the Region,”…the ECOWAS statement reads.



The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Touray, assured the Chairman of WATAF of his continued support and added that the mandate of WATAF falls in line with the overall objectives of the new ECOWAS Management about integration.

WATAF is a subregional organization, set up to allow Member States to contribute to the efficacy of tax administration and improved Service delivery in support of development within the subregion. It was established by the General Assembly of Member States through an Adoption Agreement reached in Abuja, Nigeria in 2011.
