The Information Minister, Lamin Queen Jammeh, said government supports the Inspector General of Police’s decision to deny ‘Coalition of Progressives Gambians’ a protest permit.
“That’s the stand of the government. Certainly because the inspector General is working for the government. Whatever he does, he did it in the name of the government. We are facing others problems that are not caused by us Gambians, it’s about the entire world. There are problems that everyone in the world is facing, which The Gambia is part of. We know the tourism season has opened this November, and we have a lot of income in tourism. They (planned protesters) call themselves ‘good citizens’ of the Gambia. Now, let’s all judge for ourselves,” the information minister told King FM when asked whether the Gov’t supports the IGP’s move.
Further asked whether the Gov’t is ready to dialogue with the group planning to protest, he replied: “President Barrow was the first person to say he will not allow corruption in his government when he was swearing in his cabinet. There are things that need dialogue, but there are also certain things that do not need dialogue,” he concluded.
The Chairman of Coalition of Progressives Gambians (CoPG) has recently told the Standard Newspaper that its November 11 protest would go ahead as planned and would only be canceled, if the Government of Adama Barrow shows commitment to addressing the numerous demands the group submitted.
