MOYS Through NSC To Spend D7.5m On The Commonwealth And Islamic Games

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) announced they will foot 75% of the bills (D7.5m) for Gambia’s participation in the upcoming Commonwealth and Islamic Games.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the National Sports Council, is set to foot 75% of the total bill for Gambia’s participation in the upcoming Commonwealth and Islamic Games, equivalent to an amount of seven million, five hundred thousand Dalasi (D7, 500,000.00),” MOYS said in a statement on Facebook earlier today.

The Commonwealth Games would take place from 28^th July to 8^th August in Birmingham in the United Kingdom; while the Islamic Games would run from 9^th to 18^th August 2022 in Konya in Turkey under the tutelage of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation

Twenty-one athletes will represent the nation in the Birmingham events in various categories including athletics, swimming, judo, boxing, beach volleyball, para-power lifting and wheelchair basketball 3×3.

The twenty-nine athletes will raise the Gambian flag at the Islamic Games in athletics, swimming, taekwondo, judo, basketball 3×3, para-athletics, and para-table tennis, according to the MOYS statement.
